The fantastic superhero adventure that began with The Bug Boys continues! Alex Adams and Ian Harris take on Blake Blackhart, a disgraced Oxford professor. He discovers the boys’ source of power and plots to use the Secti’s alien technology to wreak havoc across the galaxy. With a proper real-life supervillain in the village, the boys must step up their superhero game if they are to put a stop to the professor’s nefarious schemes. Along the way, they make new friends, and they encounter new bugs and superpowers. With the fate of the galaxy in the balance, the boys dig deep within themselves to truly understand what it means to be a hero!

by Nigel Unfortunately for the boys the third group of Secti nanobots from the mine have been consumed by another person, someone whose ethics are somewhat questionable and who will use their superpowers for evil rather than good… the disgraced Professor Blake Blackhart. When the local bank is robbed by someone with too many arms the boys realise the implications and decide to catch the culprit… a real live supervillain to fight! In this instalment our superheroes not only have to deal with the dastardly Professor Lockhart but also the twin horrors of puberty and girls. Or rather one girl, Linda Bell, who has just moved into Rossolington with her very inquisitive mother. Both are new at the school as pupil and teacher and both are causing Alex and Ian problems… although for very different reasons. I found this second book in the series immensely funny, laughing out loud in a number of places, particularly when Ian is in a biology lesson and accelerated puberty strikes. The Bug Boys vs. Professor Blake Blackhart could be read as a standalone book but the narrative really assumes you are familiar with Alex and Ian’s past exploits and it works best as a sequel. We would recommend reading The Bug Boys first, however, if you have come across a copy by accident then you should carry on, there is enough information at the start to paint a suitable picture to enjoy the rest of the book. Watch out for Mr Willoughby, the terminator cat, adorable and deadly. Another great book for the boys and highly recommended. |
