Publisher's Write-Up

'But what if there's an angle the police have overlooked?'

'What is there's not?'

'Then at least I'd be satisfied with the job they've done.'

I was silent for a beat, staring at the floor. Inside, a little voice was yelling 'No, no, no!' while my mouth said, 'I'll see what I can do.'

It is now nine weeks since Dr Dowan Purcell vanished without trace. The sixty-nine-year-old doctor had said goodnight to his colleagues at the Pacific Meadows nursing home, had climbed into his car and driven away - never to be seen again.

His embittered first wife Fiona is convinced he is still alive. His second wife, Crystal - a former stripper thirty years his junior - is just as sure he is dead.

Enter private investigator Kinsey Millhone, hired by Fiona to find out just what has happened to the man they loved.

Enter also Tommy Hevener, an attractive flame-haired twenty-something who has set his romantic sights on Kinsey. And Tommy is a man with a very interesting past…

'One of the more humane and empathic sleuths on the block, Grafton's heroine is also genuinely believable, full of quirks and all too human foibles... Absolute top form.'

Time Out

'Grafton is a delight to read, her books being highly literate, with believable plots and three-dimensionally drawn characters.'

I have to say that I was not expecting this book, we have heard nothing of the release and it was found completely by accident by Nigel in the local Asda supermarket.

I have the complete series sitting on our bookshelves, so he must have felt that he had to get it for me. (Aaaahhh... :-)

This is the latest outing for Kinsey Millhone, the private detective. Still living next door to Henry and eating at Rosie's and MacDonalds, she is asked to investigate the disappearance of a prominent local doctor by his ex-wife.

The ex-wife is not the nicest woman that Kinsey has ever met and the need to accept the job becomes more acceptable when Kinsey sees a small office available for rent which would be just perfect for her, but in her eagerness to get the office, she offers six months rent in advance, effectively spending the money advanced to her for her work in looking for the missing doctor.

I enjoy the alphabet series, and this is a good, solid addition to the set. It is nice to catch up with Kinsey, and see how she is, like an old friend.
