Publisher's Write-Up

Martyn Ross had a miserable life until he met Spanky, a tuxedoed charmer who's diabolically handsome, successful and ruthless. He's willing to share his wild world of wine, women and wealth - but at a price, and it has nothing to do with Martyn surrendering his soul... quite the reverse.

'Fowler's writing dazzles with laser sharpness... A potent virtuoso mix of techno culture and the supernatural. Vicious, funny, sad, scary and provocative, SPANKY is one of the great modern horror novels of our time.'

Peter James

'Compulsive...Gruesome, gory and great fun.'

Although I was originally put off slightly by the cover with a scantily clad bloke on it (plus the Title), this was the first Christopher Fowler book I read. It is about a guy called Martin (Marty) who is a bit of a loser, terminally underachieving, and bored with his life.

The story begins at the end, then goes to the beginning, and covers Marty's life when he meets a Daemon, Spanky. (Has this guy seen too many Unix boots?)

As the tale unfolds it becomes apparent that Spanky ain't a nice guy! Marty is an unwitting 'hero' and really doesn't know what to do.

There are some similarities with Fallen, but not too many. This is a great book, and I would recommend Mr Fowler's work to any horror fans out there. Never judge a book by its cover (or title!).
